"With the rapid development of 5G, the new business needs are more diversified and complex, which puts forward higher requirements for the 5G network capability. 5.5G is the only way for the next upgrade and evolution of 5G network, and has formed consensus in the industry, which is a deterministic industry development trend. With the development of 5.5G (5G-Advanced), F5.5G (F5G-Advanced) The Net5.5G standard rhythm is clear, the spectrum strategy is clear, the key technologies and various application scenarios are verified and passed, and the industrial consensus is steadily advancing, which will surely accelerate the arrival of 5.5G network commerce, and the tenfold increase in network capacity will trigger the release of more powerful digital productivity in thousands of industries. "

"5.5G" has formed an industrial consensus and become a deterministic development trend

Yang Chaobin said that at present, 6G is still in the early research stage, so 5.5G is the only way to upgrade and evolve the 5G network in the next step, and the industry is accelerating to form consensus on this. For the development of 5.5G industry, we need to work together with the whole industry from four aspects:

The pace of industrial standards is clear: 5.5G has started the process of standardization, and 5.5G technical specifications will be defined through three versions of 3GPP Release18, Release19, and Release20, which will continue to enrich the technical connotation of 5.5G. Release18 will be frozen in H1 2024; F5.5G has been put into standard design from the industrial initiative. ETSI released the white paper of F5G Advanced in September last year, and the first standard version of F5.5G, Release3, which is the lead definition, will be frozen in H1 2024. IETF and IEEE have also comprehensively carried out the work related to the first phase of Net5.5G, such as SRv6, Wi-Fi 7 and 800GE, and the relevant standards will be fully released in 2024.

The strategy of spectrum resources is clear: spectrum resources are the cornerstone of wireless networks, and the 5.5G industry is jointly promoting the sub-100GHz spectrum to NR: on the one hand, the current stock spectrum is gradually moving towards 5.5G through the integration of spectrum re-cultivation as required; On the other hand, we will jointly promote the commercial use of millimeter-wave and U6GHz ultra-wideband spectrum to provide resources for 5.5G.

Steady progress of industrial consensus: 5.5G has formed a broad consensus in the industry, and the world's leading operators have actively promoted the development of 5.5G standards and technical innovation verification. During this exhibition, GSMA led the industry partners to form a 5.5G Community. WBBA (World Broadband Association) has also officially established and released the Next Generation Broadband Roadmap white paper for F5.5G in 2022. OMDIA released the Net5.5G white paper in September last year, aligning the industrial goals from technology development, application scenarios, industrial ecology, etc., aligning the pace of industry and accelerating the commercial process.

Smooth evolution protection investment: 5.5G will realize the on-demand integration of existing resources of 5G network through key technologies such as stock spectrum re-cropping, equipment multimode multiplexing, and gradually evolve to 5.5G smoothly, fully protecting the existing investment of operators.

Key technologies continue to mature and application scenarios are verified to make the 5.5G era within reach

Yang Chaobin said that with the joint efforts of the industry, breakthroughs have been made in many key technologies of 5.5G. Innovative technologies such as ultra-large antenna array (ELAA) and virtual large-carrier reconstruction discontinuous spectrum (MBSC) of wireless networks have been verified by many operators around the world, bringing 5.5G 10-gigabit capacity into reality. In the F5.5G fixed network, the 50G PON has been standardized by ITU-T as the next generation PON. The key technologies such as uplink and downlink symmetry and multimode integration continue to develop and mature, laying the foundation for the smooth upgrade and evolution from F5G to F5.5G. The development of 5.5G/F5.5G drives the upgrade of IP network and opens Net5.5G. Net5.5G continues to strengthen in 800GE ultra-wide, end-to-end IPv6+, intelligence, security, delay and other aspects, bringing new capabilities, new products and new opportunities for operators, and stimulating operators' sustained growth.

The 5G commercial sector has entered a period of rapid development in the past three years. By the end of 2022, the number of global 5G users has exceeded 1 billion, the number of gigabit broadband users has reached 100 million, and the number of 5G industry applications has exceeded 20000. New business needs and innovations have put forward higher requirements for 5G network capabilities. In terms of personal business, with the gradual maturity of immersion services such as XR and holographic communication, the connection experience has moved from gigabit 1Gbps to 10Gbps; In the field of Internet of Things applications, the explosive growth of Internet of Things applications is a deterministic trend. Take China as an example, the total number of Internet of Things connections has exceeded the total number of people in 2022; Industry digitalization has gradually penetrated into the core production system, and more abundant scenarios and requirements have emerged, such as 5G+cloud+AI fusion application scenarios such as high-precision industrial vision AI detection, mine remote control and automatic driving, which put forward 1Gbps demand for 5G network uplink bandwidth.
