This is the first commercial case of 5G technology in the manufacturing industry in Uganda. The project plans to deploy 5G in the cement plant and use the 5G technology's "high bandwidth, low delay, wide connection" characteristics to realize real-time data transmission in the production area and drive edge computing and other functions and applications, thus significantly improving the production efficiency of the plant.

At the press conference on April 3rd, MTN and Huawei demonstrated the significant advantages of 5G in terms of ultra-high speed and ultra-low latency. The cooperating parties also demonstrated two new scenarios brought by the application of 5G technology, including 5G driven EHS (Occupational Health and Safety and Environment) training applications and video monitoring applications, which have higher safety compared to on-site training and can monitor and determine factory operation faults and accident risks in more real-time.

Sylvia Mulinge, CEO of MTN Uganda, stated that the release of HIMA Cement's 5G commercial project marks another important milestone in Uganda's 5G deployment. "5G technology will accelerate the release of Uganda's economic potential and create more opportunities for the Ugandan people to become rich.

Jean Michel Pons, CEO of HIMA Cement, said, "Through this collaboration, we have seen the potential brought by 5G technology. The automation and digital solutions brought by the application of 5G technology will make our factory and industry operations more efficient and sustainable

Gao Fei, General Manager of Huawei Uganda Limited, stated: "This 5G commercial case jointly released by Huawei, MTN and HIMA cement companies demonstrates the potential of 5G technology to enable Uganda's Digital transformation, and customers' confidence in Huawei's 5G solutions. At the same time, it also highlights the long-term partnership and mutual trust between Huawei and MTN. Huawei will continue to cooperate with all parties, and is committed to using 5G and other ICT technologies to help Uganda's Digital transformation in all walks of life to a new level."
