In 2022, Analysys Mason conducted a survey on the communication experience needs of 501 enterprise organizations and 4000 consumers. The survey results show that individual users have a need to enhance their mobile phone experience, such as using animated expressions, AR communication, and other personalized expressions during calls; Enterprise users have a particularly strong demand for cost reduction and efficiency improvement. About 77% of the surveyed enterprises are willing to upgrade their customer service systems to improve the user experience, and 55% of them hope to shorten user waiting times and solve problems faster. More than half of the surveyed enterprises plan to deploy capabilities such as business cards, intelligent interactive menus, and video customer service. The 5G new call is a powerful means to achieve these functions.


Compared to 4G, the high bandwidth and low latency of 5G networks provide conditions for users to conduct high-definition and immersive audio and video communication. 3GPP defines the data channel capabilities and architecture of IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) to support interactive calls, which have laid the foundation for the launch of 5G new calls.

The white paper points out that cultivating a broad and vibrant ecosystem is crucial to the prosperity of the 5G new phone industry, including building industry consensus and vision, cooperating with suppliers, promoting business scenarios step by step, and setting benchmarks. The white paper recommends that operators strive to increase users' recognition of the value of this business, cooperate with suppliers, accelerate the development of devices compatible with 5G new call capabilities, encourage developers to participate in application development using open new call APIs, stimulate business innovation, provide users with richer business scenarios, and prevent the fragmentation of the 5G new call industry.


Currently, Chinese operators have begun to make efforts on the commercial deployment of 5G new calls, and the planned deployment features include real-time translation, video customer service, remote maintenance, etc. Before the Spring Festival of the Year of the Rabbit in 2023, China Mobile recruited friendly users in Jiangsu Province, Zhejiang Province, and Guangdong Province, and tried out new 5G call business scenarios that enhance the user's call experience, such as personal avatars, fun calls, and real-time translation. With the launch of terminals that support data channel capabilities, more real-time interactive services will be launched on the market.
